Well hello! It’s been a few says since I’ve been around. I’ve had some big things happen in my life, which I will be posting about in a few days. It’s kept me away from blogging, but today I am back with some gorgeous colors celebrating Joy Lacquers One Year Birthday! Not only does she have 7 beautiful new colors, she is also debuting brand new labels. Check it out:

Isn’t the label great?

So, for her one year anniversary she decided to take it back to her roots, and created polishes inspired by Seattle. Let’s get to the polishes in the Joy Lacquer Emerald City Collection!

Joy Lacquer Freemont Bridge Troll

Joy Lacquer Freemont Bridge Troll

Formula/Application: Really great formula and application. You would think with the flakes and shimmers in the polish it would be thick, but it wasn’t. It was a great consistency and great to apply.

Coverage: Near opaque in two coats

Color: Deep neon green with purple shimmer and purple microflake with a smattering of holo

Finish: Crelly flake shimmer

Notes: I put one coat of Gum Wall over this to show how CUTE Gum Wall is! The formula on Gum Wall is a bit thick, but that makes it easier to grab the big, heavier dots. I was able to get the dots in place with one swipe and minimal movements on the dots. I did one coat of Gelous and one coat of HKGirl over top (note-this is my review for Gum Wall). From the Maker: From the story “The Three Billy Goats Gruff, ” this statue is Seattle’s version of a troll living under the bridge. He is a gigantic, one-eyed sculpture, holding a real VW Beetle.  A popular spot for people to pose for photos on, located in Fremont Seattle under the Aurora Bridge.

Formula/Application: Another great formula and application. I didn’t notice any issues whatsoever. I was prepared to have it be thicker due to the shimmer, but it was really great!

Coverage: Opaque in two coats

Color: Cerulean blue with pink flash

Finish: Crelly shimmer

Notes: From the Maker: This is a bright creme polish that has a unique pink shift.  It represents the blue water of the Puget Sound at Alki Beach. This strip of beach is also a few blocks from my house in West Seattle.  Any day spent at Alki Beach is a staycation for me.  It’s widely known destination for Seattle travelers and is packed to the brim with people on any given Seattle summer day.  There are amazing city views, dozens of places to eat, shop or laze around, and popular for the summer art fair, live music, beach volleyball, bonfires and bar hopping in the evenings.  This is an amazing picture of what helped inspire my blue color.  I live very close to the point in the bottom left of the picture.  The strip in between the points being Alki’s beach strip.  I know it’s just a wikipedia photo, but the blue water and city-scape on the other side of the water captures everything I love about living in West Seattle.

candy

Joy Lacquer Pier 57 Cotton Candy

Joy Lacquer Pier 57 Cotton Candy

Formula/Application: Similar formula to Alki Beach Staycation

Coverage: Opaque in two coats

Color: A pink shimmer/creme polish with gold and pink holo microglitter scattered throughout

Finish: Crelly shimmer

Notes: From the Maker: There is a blue shift with this polish and some pink and blue illusion flecks. This polish is best applied in 2 very thin coats. It’s easily opaque but will showcase the tiny details best when it’s applied thin and of course, when it’s in the direct sunshine.  It looks exactly like cotton candy and the first place I can think of to get a massive sized bag of cotton candy is Pier 57.  There lies the Seattle Great Wheel (ferriswheel ride overlooking the water), Miner’s Landing gift shops and within a block is Ivars Fish Bar and the Seattle Aquarium.  Pink and blue + sparkles = cotton candy. ‘Nuff said.

Warm

Joy Lacquer Full Tilt Cone

Formula/Application: No issues

Coverage: Near opaque in two coats

Color: Peachy/Papaya with lavender shimmer (thermal)

Finish: Thermal

Notes: From the Maker: Full Tilt is a unique ice cream chain in Seattle. They are known for creative and quirky flavor combinations and also having a pinball arcade in the shop.  Mango Chili is on their menu and best represents my experience wearing this polish color.  There is also a lavender lemonade flavored ice cream, but I’ve found the normal temp of this polish to be a mango to chili pink color.  In hotter climates, this polish might be a prominent white (lavender lemonade) color, it just depends.  I’ve found wearing this for a few days shows better what it’s capable of.  When swatching, you may want to do this one last to let it cure and acclimate to you for longer than just a couple hours.  This way you will see each transition to it’s fullest.  When I swatched, it required ice and water to get the full spectrum, but when left on for several days, I easily saw all four colors happening throughout the day. I don’t have very long nails so hopefully it shows more array on different lengths and different climates. With what I’ve seen in other people who wore this, it’s never exactly the same for any two because of climates, nail length and individual body temps.

easy

Joy Lacquer Live at Easy Street

Joy Lacquer Live at Easy Street

Formula/Application: Great formula and application

Coverage: Opaque in two coats

Color: Vivid purple holographic polish with green illusion flecks and subtle green flash

Finish: Holo shimmer fleck

Notes: From the Maker: Easy Street Records is a few blocks from where I live in West Seattle.  It’s a famous indie music store that opened in 1988.  Not only do they have an amazing breakfast cafe attached, but owner Matt Vaughan has hosted hundreds of world famous bands in small audience performances.  Some of the most popular albums resulting from these live shows are titled “Live at Easy Street” from bands such as Pearl Jam. Many other bands have made live recordings here.  The purple is an easy-to-love color and is based on the attitude of an easy-going Seattle crowd.  This fun loving color was born to be called Easy Street.

fishJoy Lacquer Flying Fish

Joy Lacquer Flying Fish

Formula/Application: Flake topper, no issues to report

Coverage: Flake topper (over Live at Easy Street)

Color: Vivid purple holographic polish with green illusion flecks and subtle green flash

Finish: Holographic and multi-colored metallic and chrome flakie topper

Notes: From the Maker: The holo base represents the ice fish are commonly seen laying in at the historical Pike Place Market.  Famous for selling sustainable seafood all over the world, they are also loved and admired for tossing the fish to one another while packing orders.  The ever-entertaining flying fish show is one thing people definitely remember when visiting the market downtown.  There is also an amazing Seattle restaurant named The Flying Fish, but this polish is more about the fish tossing show at Pike Place.

From the Maker on Gum Wall:

here are nearly 50 different colors and sizes of round glitter inside a clear jelly base.  In 2015 the Gum Wall, located in Post Alley of Pike Place, was cleaned for the first time in 20 years.  This event caused Gum Wall to come back on my radar, as I hadn’t been there in many years.  There are other polish brands who’ve made round dot glitter toppers, but none that used this much glitter variety.  Gum Wall is a well known spot that began about 25 years ago.  Hundreds of people began sticking their chewed gum to an alley wall.  The city initially tried keep it clean, but to no avail.  They let it go.  Tourists began posing for photographs in front of the millions of gum wads that spanned across almost 60 feet on Pike Street’s Post Alley.  The weight and erosion of the gum finally became a problem and the city finally steam-cleaned and pressure-washed over 2,350 pounds of gum from the wall last year.  People are allowed to post their gum to the wall, once again.  Gum Wall, the polish is a more cheerful version meant to represent the bubble gum being chewed in it’s better days!  I almost named this one ABC Alley but thought Gum Wall was a better name for the bright bubbly topper.

Melissa, owner of Love & Lotus Naturals, has created a limited edition custom body butter for me.  It’s called ‘Emerald City’s Cannabis Cafe.’  The scent is a light blend of lemon and poppy seed muffin, with fragrant amber and lavender undertones that give a rich depth to the sweetness, without smelling too musky for summer time. Depending on what’s your norm, it gives new meaning to what you might imagine when you think of the word baked.  Cannabis Cafe is absolutely divine!!!  A two ounce jar will be included with each full set, while supplies last.  (FYI – Even though smoke shops and things like this exist here, this is not a real name of any place in Seattle.)
